LOOKING TO JOIN OR CONTINUE IN 2026?
Everyone makes a team at Sirens!
Our 2026 team placement forms are officially open and will close on 30th November (end of Week 7).
TEAM PLACEMENTS AT SIRENS
YES, WE DO THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY... BUT WHY?
Whilst most gyms hold annual tryouts, at Sirens Cheerleaders we choose to focus solely on Team Placements. We pride ourselves on knowing our athletes well and placing them in the most appropriate teams based skill set, attitude and coach-ability, while also building strong stunt groups, filling all positions, and spreading talent evenly across teams. If you're a returning semi, full or elite competitive athlete, all you need to do is fill out our 2026 Team Placement form!
If you or your athlete are new to Sirens in 2026 and are looking to join one of our competitive teams, we do require attendance at our new athlete Tryout and Information Session on Saturday 29th November 2:00pm-4:00pm or if necessary, an in person assessment.
Please contact us if you wish to organise a private assessment or please come along to our tryout session. Please note: this is ONLY for new athletes.
Recreational athletes wishing to move into competitive cheer: Please fill out the competitive athlete Team Placement Form and select "part of our 2025 Recreational program". If you would like some additional information or would like to talk to our staff, please also feel free to come along to our New Athlete Team Placement Session too! It’s important to us that all your questions are answered and that everyone understands the commitment of moving into our competitive stream before singing up! We’re also contactable via phone, email or during reception hours to chat.

Testimonials
Here is what some of our #sirensfamily have to say about our team placement process...
The team placement process at Sirens is fantastic — really clear, well-organised, and genuinely thoughtful. There’s plenty of opportunity for both athletes and parents to share their preferences, and it feels like the coaches truly take those wishes into account while also considering each athlete’s individual strengths, potential, and areas for growth. I also really appreciate how Sirens helps athletes (and parents!) learn to manage expectations — it makes placement time far less stressful and more positive for everyone. Plus, the fact that athletes are assessed throughout the year rather than on one high-pressure day means each athlete is seen at their best. Sirens has also done a great job streamlining the process and getting team lists out early, giving families valuable time to plan for the year ahead.

We were welcomed to Sirens 5 years ago, and they have become my daughter’s second family. Aside from developing an inextinguishable love for cheer, she has learnt the importance of commitment to a team, grown in confidence in all parts of her life and gained forever friendships. Her coaches are professional, supportive and fun, and really take the time to get to know every athlete. When it comes to team placements, we know the coaches aim to make sure everyone will feel valued, confident and have opportunities for growth.

Heading into our 9th year with Sirens, I am always confident Bel and her coaches will place my daughters in the best teams to allow them to shine with their current skills and have room for growth and development all whilst ensuring there is a cohesive, well balanced team.

All we want for our daughter is for her to love the sport of cheer, love her team mates & gym and progress at a rate that matches her skills and big dreams. The Sirens coaches know the athletes so well (often better than they know themselves) and know what they are capable of today, next year and the athlete they want to be.
Sirens truely is a family that supports each athlete during every training, every competition and all the life in between.

I have been doing cheerleading for so long... why have I not moved up to the next level?
There are many considerations when moving athletes up a level. Having a suitable team and position, commitment and attitude, skill set, coachability and more. Years of experience doesn't necessarily mean the athlete is ready for the next level. We encourage athletes to change their mindset from "I must move up a level" to "I must master my current level in all aspects" (stunting, tumble, jumps and dance) and always work to be the best and most positive version of themselves during all training sessions... as these are big considerations.
I think I have the same skills as an athlete in level 3... why did I only get offered level 2?
Our advice will always be to never compare yourself to another athlete. As mentioned above, there are many considerations involved in building a successful team and it may be as simple as not having the required skill set for the team or even that the team has too many flyers already, so an additional athlete in this specific role would mean this athlete would not have a position. We also take into consideration the scorecard and the ratios required, particularly for tumbling teams. Each team is unique in the way it is designed and there are a certain amount of spots for each position. We also always ask our athletes to consider whether they are being the best version of themselves during training, this includes positivity, a good attitude, coachability and commitment. If we're deciding between two athletes who have the same skill set for a particular role, these are the first things we would consider.
What can I do to prove I am ready to move up to the next level?
Our advice here is always to work on being the best and most hard working athlete you can be. Focus on perfecting your technique and be open to mastering all of the skills needed in your current level. Of course, there are times where we consider athletes for a higher level, even before mastering the entire skill set of their current level (for example: if we need a specific backspot position). In these instances we would look towards those athletes who actively work to be their best in all the areas they can control. This includes, being on time, showing commitment, listening to coaches advice, taking jewellery out every lesson, working hard, practicing choreography, performing with energy and encouraging team mates always. We know these athlete will take on the challenge, listen to their coaches and work hard.
If I change my mind after team placement offers and only want to do 1 team instead of 2, can I choose my preferred team?
No. We're extremely clear with our expectations when selecting two or three cheer teams in the Team Placement form. We build our teams and stunt groups around these responses, so if you were to change your mind after placements, we would then choose which team is less effected and ultimately which team we can find a replacement for. Our recommendation is to only select two or three teams if you want and can commit to it because changing your mind affects how teams are built. You can always let us know your preference, but our staff team do get the final say.
Please do not select 3 teams just to see what you get offered. You need to be sure you can commit.
I have a clash with a 2026 competition. Can I still sign up for a team?
In 2026, (unless for extreme circumstances) will we not be allowing athletes to join a competitive team if they cannot attend all competitions. It is largely impactful on our teams when athletes miss competitions and unfortunately has become more common. You will be required to agree that you can attend all competitions in 2026 when submitting your team placement form and if you cannot, we will contact you to discuss how to move forward.
I have my standing back handspring. Does this mean I will make a level 2 team?
No not necessarily. All levels have extensive skill sets and in level 2, a standing back handspring is just the beginning. Connecting this back handspring to back walkovers or valdez, or out of round offs with multiple back handsprings (and with correct technique) makes the athlete more prepared for the level. Skills in stunting, jumps and performance are also assessed - not just tumbling.
As mentioned above, there are also many other factors we consider too.
My child is ageing out of their current age group and you don't currently have a team that suits them. Does that mean they won't have a team next year?
Don't worry, they won't be the only ones - our teams change every year! As athletes move out of age groups, develop new skills, grow in height, etc, our teams change accordingly. We will always try to find the best fit for everyone!
How do I tryout out for a specific team at Sirens?
You unfortunately cannot tryout for a specific team at Sirens unless it is an international travel team with it's own tryouts. We build teams based on who is returning or joining as well as the industry requirements for the age group and division, so as such don't hold tryouts for specific teams. You can absolutely let us know your goals and preferences, but it does not guarantee a position on that team.
